Photography by definition is "writing with light".
“The negative is comparable to the composer’s score and the print to its performance. Each performance differs in subtle ways.”
Ansell Adams - Pianist and Photographer.
It has been said that the most difficult thing about photography is that it is too easy. It is so easy to make a photograph with today's huge variety of digital cameras (and phones); but it is not easy to make a really good photograph, no matter how much one spends on photographic equipment. I like to think of photography as I think of music. I am not a musician even though I can scratch out "twinkle , twinkle, little star" on our old piano. Even if I spent many thousands of dollars on a concert grand, my musical efforts would not sound any better. If I stretch the musical analogy further and think of composing, I realise that good photography is more like good composition matched with good performance.
